Why is SSKM called PG?
The Presidency General Hospital was best known as PG Hospital till 1954. It was named Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital after India’s independence. The naming was done to commemorate the name of the great donor Sukhlal Karnani. People started addressing the Hospital as SSKM Hospital.
Presently it’s called IPGMER and SSKM Hospital, or in its full name Institute of Post-Graduate Medical Education and Research and Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital.

Many people came to see doctors at SSKM Hospital’s OPD (Out Patient Department) i.e. Outdoor Department but, are generally not properly informed about which outdoor department is open on which days.
