Black Money and the Common Man

Black Money and the Common Man

The common man is part of the system that creates black money. Here’s how…

  • Common man is the one who purchase groceries from a kirana shop for cheaper price, knowing that the kirana shop hardly pays any tax at all.
  • Common man is the one who prepares fake rental agreements and shows it as proof for HRA.
  • Common man is the one who pays bribe to a government official, just to make out work easier/faster.
  • Common man is the one who acceptes Rs. 500/1000 notes (read black money) from political parties during elections campaigns.
  • Common man is the one who purchases a product without bill, to save paying tax (thereby creating black money).
  • Common man is the one who gives ‘hafta’ to the police for keeping their illegal shops/businesses running.
  • Common man is the one who offers bribe to the police to escape when caught for drunken driving, not wearing a helmet, etc. instead following the rules.
  • Common man is the one who saves money little by little and purchases property and registers it for under-market-value to save money (thereby creating black money).
  • Common man is the one who gives ‘donation’ to a private school, knowing very well that the school will not give any receipt for same.
  • Common man is the one who complains about the corrupt system but doesn’t take any steps to correct the system, but instead keeps on playing the blame game.
  • Common man is the one who justifies all the above acts, saying politicians are corrupt, so we can be corrupt too.

So, the question is how can one cleanup the system when you and me (read the Common Man) are an integral part of it…
